Third Pokemon for Battle Frontier Team
The third member of my team to take on the Battle Frontier for the first time is going to be Salamence! This is a common Pokemon trainers include on their team when challenging the Battle Frontier for obvious reason. Its stats are off the charts and the move pool can become diverse. Salamence makes for an impressive sweeper in any team.
Salamence also has a special place in my heart as I bet many of you. This dragon has a menacing design and was challenging to get in Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald. Since it can only be found in the back section of Meteor Falls with a low spawn rate, finding and capturing this Pokemon required patience however was rewarding especially as a kid!
Salamence and Flygon are included in my top favorite Pokemon and I considered both for this Battle Frontier Team. It was a tough choice however Salamence’s stats (especially the attack stats) are much higher when comared to Flygon’s. It is hard to pass up on this massive benefit Salamence offers. I really do love Flygon so I still will breed a powerful one in the future, however for this first run with the Battle Frontier, Salamence is too potent and worthy to not add to the team.
IV Breeding Starts
The Bagon I am targeting to build will have Adamant nature, perfect IVs in HP/Attack/Speed, and will be EV trained in Attack/Speed with the remainder in HP. I started the breeding process for Bagon on February 23rd with a game time of 117:54 in Emerald. I was able to jumpstart this process since I already have Dittos with perfect IVs from when I was IV breeding Aggron. I also luckily had a female Bagon with Adamant nature as well. So this saved a lot of time upfront since I could already start transferring the nature to the babies!
The first major step was trying to transfer some perfect IVs to a female Bagon with Adamant nature. Having the IVs on the female with the correct nature is a critical step that makes this process easier. After several hours I finally hatched a female Bagon with the correct nature and perfect IVs in Attack. This took longer than it probably should have however it involves luck so I just had to be patient. Also, several decent male Bagons hatch with perfect IVs in stats such as attack, defense, and speed. I swapped out which Pokemon were in the Day Care accordingly with ones that had better IVs.
After many hours a surprisingly strong Bagon hatched! This had overall outstanding IVs with perfect IVs in attack, defense, and speed! This means that the total IVs range from 151 to the max of 186. A Pokemon like this is difficult to breed! I was quite shocked and happy however I really wished the HP IVs were perfect. Also the nature is Naughty which increases attack and decreases special defense. This actually isn’t too bad! Since this will be a physical sweeper, the increase in attack is ideal and hopefully the decrease in special defense isn’t important since Salamence should one shot every Pokemon.
I decided to give myself some more time breeding to see what else would hatch. Unfortunately it has been many in game hours since then and my luck has not been so great. No HP IVs were being transferred to any Bagons even after about 20-30 eggs. I was quite shocked the HP IVs were being stubborn. I will breed a few more rounds of Bagons to see if I can hatch the ideal one I was targeting. If I cannot get it, I think this Bagon with the outstanding IVs will make for a great Pokemon! Stay tuned for the next post on updates to this adventure.
